Course Description

Discover the fundamentals of portrait drawing in this welcoming, beginner-friendly class focused on working from photographic reference. Students will learn how to observe and translate key facial features, proportions, and expressions while building confidence with line, shape, and shading. Through guided exercises and step-by-step instruction, you’ll explore techniques for capturing likeness, understanding light and shadow, and creating depth and dimension.
Whether you’re new to drawing or looking to strengthen your foundational skills, this class offers a supportive environment to develop your eye and bring portraits to life on paper.

Due to our commitment to small class sizes and the hands-on nature of art education, we are greatly impacted by cancellations. Nevertheless, we do understand that plans change. Maggie Murray

Maggie has been an artist member with AAN since September 2020, and occasionally teaches mixed media with the organization. She holds a BA from Simmons College in Arts Administration with a minor in Art History. Maggie currently resides on island with her husband and labradoodle Axel Rose.
