Course Description

Explore the world of advanced coil building and figure/form design. Coil building lets you construct forms with remarkable scale and expressiveness– and in this exciting new class, you will learn to build work with real structural integrity and a sculptor’s sense of form.
Guided by Marin Caspe, a ceramic artist known for her surreal coil-built figures, you’ll learn how coils behave, how to join them for strength, and how to push them towards ambitious shapes. Some clay experience recommended.

OPEN STUDIO TIME Additional studio hours are available to adult students who are registered for a class. Scheduled times will start the week of July 14 and be offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6:30–8:30pm.

AAN depends upon student tuition to continue to offer classes and workshops. Due to our commitment to small class sizes and the hands-on nature of art education, we are greatly impacted by cancellations. Nevertheless, we do understand that plans change. If you need to cancel your reservation for a class or workshop, please note our cancellation/refund policy here and let us know as soon as possible.

Materials

Tuition includes 25lb bag of clay, glazes and kiln firings.
Additional clay available for $55 a bag (includes glaze & firing cost)

Marina Caspe

Marina Caspe is a ceramic artist known for her distinctive approach to form and surface. A native of Nantucket, Massachusetts, she draws inspiration from the island's natural beauty and maritime heritage. Growing up on an island sparked a lifelong curiosity about the world beyond, and her travels have since become a significant source of creative inspiration, influencing both the textures and narratives in her work. Marina earned her Bachelor of Arts from Roger Williams University in 2023, where she developed her foundational skills in art and design. She went on to receive her Master’s degree in Ceramics from the Royal College of Art in London in 2024, where she refined her technical practice and conceptual voice. Her current work serves as storytelling pieces and often explores the tension between reality and permanence. Caspe’s pieces have been exhibited in galleries across the U.S. and the U.K., reflecting her transatlantic perspective and deep connection to place and community.
