Susan M. Duane

Artist Life Member

Susan is both a lifelong Nantucketer and photographer. She first summered on island in the day when shacks were more the norm and it was a bit wild living between Miacomet and Cisco.

After college Susan studied and was employed at the Maine Photo Workshops; shortly thereafter she moved to New York where she worked at the photo agency Magnum and in the marketing department at HBO. Years later Susan moved to Aspen where she was director of Photographers /Aspen, a group of National Geographic photographers. Eventually, as is the way of true New Englanders, she missed the East Coast and returned to become the first photography director at Boston magazine.

Later, Susan spent a number of summers working back on Nantucket at the Artists Association, the Hoorn Ashby Gallery and Nantucket Looms.

I’m a curious observer and see the aesthetic potential in what is not necessarily obvious.
