Nicci is an illustrator from Nantucket whose passion for cartoons, animation, and comic books led her to study Sequential Art at Savannah College of Art and Design. After graduating from SCAD in 2016 Nicci moved back to Nantucket where she continued to create her fun and silly illustrations. Nicci teaches Comics, Illustration, and Digital Art at the Artists Association of Nantucket. When Nicci isn’t painting she can be found riding her bike and reading comics on the beach.
For my work, I draw a lot of inspiration from my life and my hometown. Life can be so ironic and funny which is why I think I find myself creating short biographical comics. I adore storytelling and creating the imagery that goes with it however, coming up with my own story I sometimes find difficult. When it comes to creating a story from your imagination there are a lot of elements and world building to consider, so I figured why not just use my own life as a story.
When I create my illustrations and paintings I typically take inspiration from my hometown so you’ll find a lot of nautical elements in these. My illustrations tend to have a humorous twist which I love to incorporate. Interestingly enough my paintings I discovered I have much more strict structure, I tend to take a subject and have the study of that subject be the sole focus. Usually those subjects you’ll find in the ocean.
