I came to Nantucket in 97 working as a goldsmith fabricating minature gold Nantucket baskets for several years. Ive made jewelry as long as i can remember. I enjoy the scale, color and problem solving involved with jewelry making. My background is in graphic design, as well as metlasmithing. I continue to improve and explore new techniques by attending professional level classes in the summer months. I currently work here on Nantucket as a tiler for most of this time as well.
Life can be challenging, there are ups and downs, you have good days and bad but I would like to think of it as an adventure. If you’re going to work, on a date, out to a performance or at your kids soccer game you should choose your pieces for whatever adventure you’re on that day. I work with enamel, and complex pattern generation, my collection is colorful and engaging, light and easy to wear. There are days I find it incredibly frustrating working with enamel, but I keep coming back to it as a medium, I just love the color and I greatly enjoy coming up with new designs.
I’ve always made things. As a child I worked with seed beads and weaving them by hand with a needle and thread. As an adult im still using colored glass but my needle had been replaced with a paintbrush. My background prior to metalsmithing is in graphic design, I think my current work is a perfect example of a mix of the two. Complex colorful patterns, on three dimensional objects.
