Artist Statement

The camera has been companion, interlocutor, and friend for as long as I can remember. In addition to printing my photographs, I play with collaging elements of found photographic images (from tv, books, and other print media) to create both small and large-scale photographic constructions. These “photo-reliefs” are in varying states of 2D/3D resolve—from smooth and coincident to dissonant and misaligned. Scale is very important, as is choice of framing. Some images are very large, unframed and fill a wall - installations; some are more conventionally framed as objects, some are objects within shadowboxes or an arrangement of framed images; some evolve into environments, books, projections, videos. In all these projects, by un-stitching, re-assembling, and playing with the dimensionality of the physical image, I hope to create a sense of immediacy and to invite the viewer to enter the story of its making.
