Allison Hudson

I am a contemporary painter working primarily in pastels. Pastels are my favorite medium because of their vibrancy, plus the variety of results pastels afford - blended, sharp, watery, solid, to name a few.

I work on a range of subjects, as it is a joy to discover the worlds within a still life as much as it is to dive into a breathtaking landscape.  I love painting because it makes me feel that I am a part of something larger than myself.

After 18 years of working in media planning and sales in the advertising industry in New York City, I began to re-visit the arts (having studied studio and art history at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY) and studied studio practices as well as architectural and design history at the New York School of Interior Design in Manhattan, NY.  In the Winter of 2022, I attended a short but intensive facilitated studio practice at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass, CO, which provided further foundation for a second career. Most recently, classes at Nantucket Artists’ Association Visual Arts Center provide ongoing guidance and inspiration.

My husband and I and our rescue dog Lucky live between Nantucket, MA and Snowmass, CO with stops in between to visit family and friends.

Artist Statement

Painting allows for direct participation with the beautiful light, color, shape and design observable in views both grand and intimate: I love painting because it makes me feel that I am a part of something larger than myself. I am also inspired by the experience of discovery that painting allows.
