Son of artist, John Lochtefeld. Lochtefeld graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame with majors in psychology and art. He spent two years on his own pottery in Peekskill, N.Y. before moving to New Hampshire to become a founding member of the Portsmouth Pottery Cooperative. Lochtefeld is influenced by early American saltware and traditional Japanese pottery techniques.
