Louise Wolf Stark Arnold

1903 - 2004

Louise Arnold was born Oct. 8, 1903 in Williamsport, PA, the daughter of August Ferdinand Wolf and Frances Melanine Nicely Wolf of Wilkes Barre, Pa. She was educated at Wilkes Barre Day School and Vassar College. In 1924 she married Robert Warbrick Stark, who died in 1961. In 1962 she married George Carpenter Arnold Jr. of Newport RI. She was a resident of Palm Beach, FL, and a summer resident of Nantucket since 1907. She was a communicant of St. Paul’s Church in Nantucket, a member of Bethesda-By-The-Sea Church in Palm Beach, the Nantucket Yacht Club,  Artists Association of Nantucket, Abiah Folger Franklin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Vassar Club of New York. She was the author of a book on Tuckernuck Island and a painter of Nantucket scenes in oils, pastels and watercolors. She had art shows in Palm Beach Nantucket, and Hazelton, PA. Her son, Robert Warbrick Stark Jr. and grandson Robert Warbrick Stark III are island artists.

Louise attended Vassar College and the Art Students League in New York. After moving to Nantucket with her husband, she was one of the early artistis exhibiting in the Sidewalk Art Show and also was shown in Petticoat Row, the Kenneth Taylor Galleries, and the Candle House Gallery.
