Julian E. Yates

1872-1953

Yates studied at Wake Forest University and received a divinity degree from the University of Chicago, eventually becoming head chaplain of the U.S. Army, a Colonel. He lived at 27 India Street starting in the late ‘30’s and became the first active secretary-treasurer of the AAN in 1946. He was a popular exhibitor in the Sidewalk Art Show. The Lobster Pot Gallery held a retrospective of Yate’s work in 1961.
