Florence L. Schepp

1877-1964

Florence L. Schepp (1977-1964) was a member of AAN for our first 20 years. Four of her five artworks in an acquisition gifted to AAN by the Nantucket Cottage Hospital depict Old North Wharf and the Easy Street Basin ca. 1930-50. She lived across the street from the Easy Street Gallery, and one of the gifted works (left in the photo of the four) is a view made from North Wharf looking back down the basin. It shows her home and the gallery. Schepp exhibited at the Kenneth Taylor Galleries, the Easy Street Gallery (which she helped fund), and at the annual Sidewalk Art Shows. She was a student of island artist Edgar W. Jenney (1869-1939) in the 1930’s and later studied with Frank Swift Chase. After her father’s death in 1926, Florence oversaw the Leopold Schepp Foundation and devoted her life to the Foundation’s support of the arts.
