Course Description

ALL LEVELS WELCOME. Explore the potter’s wheel in this challenging, but fun, class. Nell Van Vorst will demonstrate the basics steps needed to create your own functional vessels on the pottery wheel. Wedging, centering, and throwing small forms will all be covered, as well as handle-making and simple decorative techniques for personalizing your work. Intermediate and advanced levels students will continue building their skills while exploring more challenging techniques and troubleshooting.

*Wheelthrowing can be very messy so please dress accordingly- short sleeves recommended. Feel free to bring an apron.

*Additional clay available for $50 a bag (includes glaze & firing cost).

OPEN STUDIO TIME Additional studio hours are available to adult students who are registered for a class to practice the skills you have learned.

Nell Van Vorst is a maker working primarily in porcelain. All her work is made on Nantucket with emphasis on craftsmanship and simple striking design. Functional work, including cups, bowls, plates, and serving ware, is intended for everyday use and designed to be a pleasure to touch and hold.
