Course Description

Playfully integrate florals, the Nantucket landscape and still life painting in a class with artist Heather McLeod. Students will explore texture and color as they learn to represent different types of flowers from soft, billowy petals to strong, structured leaves. Heather will review basics in color and brushwork in oils as students paint from still life arrangements in the studio. Once comfortable with various floral arrangements Heather will discuss the compositional and symbolic meaning associated with flowers and work on integrating the still life into a landscape. Students will combine working from life with photographic elements to develop one finished work of art. Students will gain a better understanding of the breadth of still life painting and the importance of the landscape, as well as the confidence to represent them in oils.
