Guenther, Sue Cory

Sue Cory Guenther
1875 (Waukegan, Illinois) - August 17, 1948 (Nantucket, Massachusetts)

Guenther was a student of Frank Swift Chase in his heyday, and she was a regular exhibitor at the Easy Street Gallery starting in 1924 with two sketches. She also exhibited at the Kenneth Taylor Galleries in 1947 and 1948. On island she lived at "Moorings", 11 Academy Lane.

Sue Cory (Case) Guenther was the daughter of Charles Case of Waukegan IL. He was a Capt. in the Civil War commanding Co. K of the 64th Illinois which was part of Sherman's taking of Atlanta, etc. later in the war. Sue was born in 1875, married Rudolph Guenther in 1896, and she died in Nantucket in 1948. Rudolph was a prominent figure in NYC in the advertising industry in the first half of the twentieth century.
