Course Description

Understand the dynamics of color and learn how to mix pigments as you build foundational oil painting skills. Through easy to follow exercises that build insight into the world of color, Heather will guide students to build skills for confidently painting a still life from observation. This challenging part in the painting process is essential to creating an interesting image that conveys a sense of time and place with mood and meaning. You will learn how to identify, mix, and match colors according to the qualities of warm and color, bright and muted, dark and light, and harmonious and contrast. Heather will also share her inspiring knowledge of how contemporary artists are using color in their work. Whether you are new to oils, or looking to deepen your understanding of both color and pigments, this class will deepen not only how you paint, but how you see. All levels welcome.
