Heather McLeod shares her process for creating narrative portraits using the alla prima method and a limited palette of earth tones as she leads students through a journey of foundational skills that include compositional analysis, color theory and narrative development to create engaging self-directed work. Each class will begin with a short demonstration that is followed by one-on-one instruction to discuss composition, color and symbolism. The use of photography as a reference will be utilized and discussed as students work to create one or more portraits that are not only skillfully executed, but contain an interesting narrative for the viewer to contemplate. All levels welcome, a basic knowledge of drawing is helpful.
