Course Description

Harmonize watercolor’s power to create bold abstractions and subtle details. Leyah shows students how to control watercolor’s spontaneity and surprises, then bring out details that define and convey the essence of petals, stamen, and leaves. Taking inspiration from the natural world, students will explore the idea of perfection as a dance with the unknown, aka Wabi Sabi, a spill of color that freely runs across the paper and creates something that surprises and delights us. Leyah shows how releasing paint’s unruly components creates work of exquisite beauty where credit is shared between the mutual participation of artist and medium, and we fall in love with watercolor. ALL LEVELS WELCOME.
