In 2015 AAN launched an Artist-In-Residence Program. Residencies are awarded between November and April. As part of the residency program, artists will have the opportunity to work with AAN members, students, and the Nantucket community.
We ask that residents consider sharing their experience with an artist talk open to the public, teaching a class or workshop, or an exhibition of work created while in residence at the Visual Arts Center. Some of these options may reduce the residency fee. Residents are welcome to join us for a minimum of two weeks, maximum of two months.

Living at the Visual Arts Center
The residency includes a furnished studio apartment, with a full size bed, galley kitchen, full bath, and small outdoor space. The VAC is located in the center of the island and is convenient to all services. Bike paths are everywhere, however in the late fall and winter a car may be necessary as public transportation does not run after Columbus Day.

Private Studio
A generous-sized private studio is provided and equipped with an easel, painting cart with palette, tables, stools, sink, and cleaning supplies. A printmaking studio is also available for shared use.

The applicant must be a practicing artist. Artists working in any medium are welcome to apply. While we do have facilities for clay handbuilding and wheelthrowing, we are not accepting ceramic residents at this time, but feel free to reach out regading Visiting Artist teaching opportunites.

Photographers, textiles/fiber artists, mixed media artists, and lost wax jewelers are encouraged to apply.

A letter of intent should accompany the application that explains how the experience will be of benefit to you.

For those who wish to teach, previous teaching experience is required. Please provide an outline or proposal of a sample workshop or class. Workshop length and details will be discussed upon acceptance to the residency.

We practice greener safety practices at the VAC. Please contact us for more infformation.
