Founded in 1945 by artists and art patrons, the organization strives to support and foster the visual arts on Nantucket. A central to its mission, AAN promotes and encourages Nantucket artists by showing and selling members’ art in the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery. AAN members receive the highest sales commission on the Island. In addition, artists are encouraged to participate in special events, including Spring Sweep Sidewalk Art Shows, Wet Paint / Fresh Works, and the Summer Art Auction & Gala. Pop-up shows, demonstrations, and other special events are also planned throughout the year. Members receive a 10% discount on all class registration. If you have any questions about AAN artist members, contact Peter J. Greenhalgh.
How to become an artist member
AAN has more than 240 Artist Members, who participate throughout the year in changing exhibitions at the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery. They teach in the education program, provide art for AAN’s popular special events, and enrich the association’s outreach and public programming. AAN provides four opportunities a year to apply for artist membership. To learn more about becoming an artist member, please contact AAN art director Bobby Frazier or browse through the application.
If you would like to renew your artist membership, please email Maggie Lengyel.

Annual Art Donation
As part of the membership contract, AAN artists are required to donate a piece of work to be auctioned at the Summer Art Auction & Gala. This is a wonderful opportunity for artists to show their best work to AAN’s most generous supporters. It is also a generous gift and AAN is deeply grateful for our artists’ annual commitment to help with the fund-rising goals.
This year’s Gala is on July 13 at the Great Harbor Yacht Club. Artists must deliver their work to the Visual Arts Center no later than May 31, 2018 to be considered. Results from the jury committee will by emailed to artists within two weeks.
