The Waterfront Artists:  Painters That Changed Nantucket

AAN is proud to present The Waterfront Artists: Painters That Changed Nantucket, an exhibition drawn from the Permanent Collection. Curated by Robert Frazier, The Waterfront Artists features work by significant artists who worked in their waterfront studios and shaped Nantucket over the decades into a true artist colony.

The exhibition highlights art by Emily Leaman Hoffmeier (see above oil painting), Ruth Haviland Sutton, Isabelle and Emerson Tuttle, Elizabeth Saltonstall, Harriet Lord, Frank Swift Chase, Donn Russell, Reggie Levine, C. Robert Perrin, Doris Riker Beer, Charlotte Stuart Kimball, and others.

The Waterfront Artists will be held at the Maria Mitchell Association's 33 Washington Street property, adjacent to the Isabelle Tuttle studio and central to the studio locations of many of these painters. Visitors will enjoy following the museum-style storyline. The exhibition will be augmented by art-based walking tours of the waterfront, a plein air festival on July 1st and 2nd, and an art scene gam.
