Special Events Administration Internship - June–August, 2011

The Artists Association of Nantucket is seeking part-time intern to assist in its busy special events department. The internship will run from June–August, 8-10 hours a week.

Special Events Intern Responsibilities: 
The intern will work directly with AAN director of development and administrative staff to help coordinate the association’s annual Art Auction and Gala, Sidewalk Art Shows, Croquet Tournament, and Wet Paint Auction. He/she will gain direct experience in special event planning and the coordination of volunteer management. In addition, the intern will gain valuable experience in non-profit fund-raising.

Special Events Intern Qualifications: 
The internship is designed for a college or university student with an interest in special events and arts administration. It is ideally suited for someone with experience in multi-tasking, attention to the details, and strong communication skills.

Benefits: The intern will become part of the AAN administrative staff. He/she will gain direct experience in special events management and event planning.  A letter of recommendation will expand your résumé.

Teaching Assistant Internships - July & August 


Education Program Teaching Assistant Internships

T.A. Intern applicants are welcome to apply for a T.A. position in any children's class offered during the summer months. AAN offers classes for ages 2-19 in pre-school arts, ceramics, drawing & painting, beaded jewelry, mixed media, and more! Status: Part Time, Unpaid, 3-20 hours per week.

Pre-School Teaching Assistant Internship

Exploring Art T.A. Interns will assist the Exploring Art Lead Teacher with prep and teaching our arts & crafts class for ages 2-5. The class will be offered two mornings per week for one hour from July 6 - August 19. Status: Part-time, unpaid (6 hours per week).

Plein Air Painting Teaching Assistant Internships

T.A. Interns will enjoy beautiful views while assisting the lead teacher with three morning classes per week, for ages 6-14, held at the Great Harbor Yacht Club. Intern must be comfortable working outdoors, able to assist in moving work tables and easels, and enjoy working in pencil and watercolor. Art Camp Teaching Assistant Internship

Art Camp T.A. Interns will assist the Art Camp Lead Teacher with week-long arts & crafts camp for ages 5.5-9. Art Camps meet weekly from Late June/early July-late-August. Camps are offered Monday-Friday, 8:30 - 12:30 p.m. Status: Part-time, unpaid (4-20 hours/week).

T.A. Intern Responsibilities: Working directly with the AAN education program staff, T.A. interns will learn to develop their own curriculum, manage the classroom, and inspire creative, young artists. Interns will gain direct experience in class preparation and planning, education programming, and teaching. T.A. Interns must be able to attend a pre-summer teacher meeting and any training sessions, held in mid-late June.

T.A. Intern Qualifications: Independent initiative, ability to prioritize tasks, ability to work well with the public, prior experience working with children (babysitting, teaching, etc.).Internships are open to high school students age 14+, college, or university students studying early childhood education or fine arts, or qualified teachers looking for art and pre-school/elementary teaching experience. AAN artist members may also be interested in applying.

The Benefits: Interns will become part of the active and fulfilling world of art education on Nantucket. They will gain direct experience in designing, planning, and teaching art classes. A letter of recommendation will expand your résumé. All TA's will be given one free art class or workshop while volunteering at the AAN.

 


Education & Public Programming Administration Internship - May or June-August

Responsibilities: Provide general administration support for the Education Program and the Public Programming departments. Duties may include: answering phones, assisting students with registration, data entry, word processing, filing, photocopying and preparation of mailings, art education program brochures, posters, and postcards for classes, workshops, supply orders, and special events. Visit a current AAN class one hour per week and observe and assist where necessary. A different class will be visited every week for a full-range experience.

Qualifications: Great organizational abilities and independent initiative, ability to prioritize tasks, excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work well with the public.
Internships are open to high school students age 16+, college, or university students studying early childhood education or fine arts, or qualified teachers looking for art and pre-school/elementary teaching experience. AAN artist members may also be interested in applying.

The Benefits: Interns will become part of the active and fulfilling world of art education on Nantucket. They will gain insights into art education administration and class-programming experience. A letter of recommendation will expand and enhance your résumé. All TA's will be given one free art class or workshop while volunteering at the AAN.

Status: Part-time, unpaid (15+ hours/week); hours are flexible. May or June - August.

Gallery Sales Internship - June - August, 2011

Responsibilities: The Artists Association of Nantucket is seeking a part-time intern at the Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery. The unpaid interns must commit to a minimum of three hours per week.The AAN will train the interns in successful sales procedures. In addition, the interns will learn about the history of Nantucket as an art colony and the thriving artist community today.The interns will gain direct experience in gallery sales - including customer relations, marketing of art, and transaction details.

Qualifications: 
This internship is perfect for a student interested in studying art history or fine art at college or university. Art patrons and AAN members may also be interested in applying.

The Benefits: Interns will become part of the active and fascinating world of art on Nantucket. They will learn gallery procedure, gain insights into art gallery administration, and practical sales experience. A letter of recommendation will expand your résumé.

Status: Part-time, unpaid (3 hours/week minimum); hours are flexible
