Carpenter, Rachel "Rae"
Graduated from Boston University in 1916 and continued her study of art at the Sorbonne in Paris where she received a Diplome Superieur. In 1925 she graduated from Alliance Francais in Paris and received her masters degree from Trinity College in Hartford, Ct. She came to Nantucket in 1920 to be part of the growing artist colony. She studied on island with Frank Swift Chase and was one of the originators of the Sidewalk Art Show in the 1930’s. Her paintings were shown at the Kenneth Taylor Galleries and The Little Gallery, where her last solo exhibit was held in 1982.
