Lois Wertheimer

Carving is an obsession. It is difficult to describe the symbiosis that evolves between the artist and her material. The stones and woods often dictate and frustrate the mentor during the creative process but a sense of accomplishment arises when the artist is able to take control and finalize the desired form from the original block. In order to succeed, the artist has to respect the limitations of her material and be able to approach her work with flexibility and daring. The creative process parallels an individual's unique approach to life's challenges and commitments.

-Lois Wertheimer
