Louise Stark Wolf Arnold, 1903 - 2004
Louise died at home on April 13, 2004. She was 100. Mrs. Arnold was born Oct. 8, 1903 in Williamsport, PA, the daughter of August Ferdinand Wolf and Frances Melanine Nicely Wolf of Wilkes Barre, Pa. She was educated at Wilkes Barre Day School and Vassar College. In 1924 she married Robert Warbrick Stark, who died in 1961. In 1962 she married George Carpenter Arnold Jr. of Newport RI. She was a resident of Palm Beach, FL, and a summer resident of Nantucket since 1907. She was a communicant of St. Paul's Church in Nantucket, a member of Bethesda-By-The-Sea Church in Palm Beach, the Nantucket Yacht Club, Kenneth Taylor Art Association, Nantucket Art Association, Abiah Folger Franklin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Vassar Club of New York, Everglades Club and Bath and Tennis Club of Palm Beach, FL, Colony Club of New York, Chilton Club of Boston, and Palm Beach Garden Club. She was the author of a book on Tuckernuck Island and a painter of Nantucket scenes in oils, pastels and watercolors. She had art shows in Palm Beach Nantucket, and Hazelton, PA. She is survived by a son, Robert Warbrick Stark Jr. of Nantucket; a daughter, Mollie Stark Eckelberry of Syosset, NY; six grandchildren, Alan Houghton, Emily Eckelberry Johnson, Alison Stark Sandelbach, Robert Warbrick Stark III, Penny Lane Stark Farias, and Dylan B. Stark; and five great-grandchildren.
Louise attended Vassar College and the Art Students League in New York. After moving to Nantucket with her husband, she was one of the early artistis exhibiting in the Sidewalk Art Show and also was shown in Petticoat Row, the Kenneth Taylor Galleries, and the Candle House Gallery.
