Liz Asch has been involved with crafting and the book arts for 10 years. Her fascination with texture, tools, and the creative process has led her to teach workshops at the Center for Book Arts, the New York Public Library, and the American University in Paris. She has also taught at private schools and community workshops for students of all levels.

Patrick Beaugard received his formal arts education at the Art Students League in New York where he won a merit scholarship as well as a full Nessa Cohen Scholarship. His greatest inspiration comes from the indigenous art of the Pacific Northwest, namely masks from the northwest coast of Canada. He has exhibited his work at the Cork Gallery at Lincoln Center and had a solo show at Greenfield Community College in the Berkshires. He exhibits his work at the NISDA and the Old Spouter Gallery on Nantucket.

Gina Bilander has been an AAN photography member for several years and a photographer her whole adult life. She graduated from the Boston Museum School in 1982, worked as the photographer-in-residence at the Performing Arts Ensemble Dance Co. in Cambridge. She taught photography for many years and has exhibited her work numerous times. Gina has presented a variety of lectures with the AAN Arts Program including “A Photographer's Journey through the World of Rembrandt."


Jerry Lee Canada
is an accomplished watercolor artist and has been a member of the AAN since 1993. She has taught with the Association for over six years. Jerry studied at the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, VA and at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC. She exhibits her work on Nantucket at the AAN Gallery and Barbara Kauffman-Locke Gallery in Sconset as well as at the Leesburg Sketch Club in Virginia.

Lana Z. Caplan
has a BA in art history and psychology from Boston University and studied fine arts at Mass Art and the Boston Museum School. She teaches photography and alternative processes at the Boston Photo Collaborative and Madison Park High School as well as participating as a guest lecturer at Harvard University. She has received grants from the Polaroid Corporation and Massachusetts Cultural Council. Her work is represented by Gallery NAGA in Boston.

Jeannette Carl has always been drawn to the arts; whether it be painting, drawing or weaving. She studied with J. Pagget Fredrichs at the Art Center in San Francisco, who “opened her eyes” to the immense possibilities in her field. She took Alpers Color Course, by the German scientist who introduced color as a science to the art world, and whose influence is apparent in Carl's delicate color mixes, tints and tones. She lives with her family on Nantucket.

John Carruthers
received his MFA from the New York Academy of Art in New York City. The Academy stresses Renaissance teaching methods of anatomy, cast drawing, and composition. He earned his BA in studio art from Fordham University. He moved from Brooklyn to the Catskills to teach art and banjo. He is currently enrolled at SUNY New Paltz in the NY State Teacher Certification Program and works as a substitute teacher for grades K-12 and as a tutor in a group home for troubled teens.

Alison Hall Cooley
has a BA in art history and studio art from Sarah Lawrence College and also studied at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC. She has been a member of the AAN since 1999. Her work is represented by Susan Calloway Fine Arts in Washington, DC, Page Bond Gallery in Richmond, VA, and Old Spouter Gallery on Nantucket.

Kevin Dadoly,
who hails from New Hampshire, has traveled throughout New England to teach his popular watercolor workshops and classes. Dadoly is a member of the Copley Society and a recipient of the New England Watercolor Award for the Winter Members Show. The late William F. Rickenbacker said, "Kevin Dadoly was born with the urge to paint. For more than two decades Mr. Dadoly has continued to press against the limits of watercolor...he brings (to the work) his own unmistakable vision and personality."

Elle Foley has a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and a masters degree in architecture from the Boston Architectural Center. She is a longtime member of the AAN and has been painting on Nantucket for many years.

Lori Garrabrant
received her BA in fine arts with a focus on ceramics from the University of Vermont. She studied photography, printmaking, and textiles in Italy, at Central Saint Martin's College of Art & Design in London, and the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland. She was an art teacher at the Cyrus Pierce Middle School on Nantucket for several years and has taught extensively with the AAN and Community Network for Children. She recently completed the Teacher Certification Program for Art Education at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston.

Joan Griswold
received her BA from Beloit College in classics and fine art and continued her studies in Japan, France, and New York City. She lives in rural western Massachusetts. With quick and expressive brushstrokes, her paintings explore the abstract found in the "overlooked scene, the offbeat detail, the tea kettles and irons and sun-pouring-in-through-the-kitchen-window acuality of daily life." Often called "portraits without people," her paintings give one the sense the subject has just left the room. Griswold's work can be found in private collections thoughout the United States.

Louis Guarnaccia is one of Nantucket's foremost maritime and portrait artists. Classically trained, he has studied under Ken Davies, Rudolf Zallenger and Dean Keller. He is a member of the American Society of Portrait Artists, Salmangundi Club in NYC and the American Society of Portrait Artists. He has also been a member of the AAN for several years and is represented nationally by many galleries.

Megan Hinton
holds an MA in Painting from New York University. She has received national recognition for her work and has been a member of the AAN since 1998. As a contemporary artist, she is interested in the dialogue that exists between the idea, the image, and the technical aspects of making art. Her work is represented by South Wharf Gallery on Nantucket.

Gregg Kreutz
received his education from New York University and the Art Students' League where he studied with David Leffel and Robert Beverly Hale. He exhibits at galleries in New York, Wisconsin, Arizona, and New Mexico and has many awards to his credit including the Salamagundi Club, Grumbacher and Frank C. Wright. He is the author of Problem Solving for Oil Painters, published by Watson-Gutpill. Gregg teaches to capacity classes at the Art Students' League, the Scottsdale Artists' School and various classes around the USA and Europe.

David Lazarus
was educated at the Bath Academy of Art and has lived and worked on Nantucket for over 20 years. He is a talented painter, scrimshander, printmaker, carver and long time member of the AAN. He exhibits his work regularly the South Wharf Gallery and AAN Gallery. Students will also be familiar with his maritime woodcuts, prints and detailed scrimshaw work.

Ken Layman received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and is a member of the Copley Society. He is a longtime member of the AAN and has been teaching with the Association for almost a decade. He exhibits his work at the AAN Gallery and Nantucket Looms.

Katie Trinkle Legge has been working as a professional artist on Nantucket since 1988. She graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a BFA and is an accomplished artist in many mediums. She exhibits her work at the Old Spouter Gallery, Left Bank Gallery and the AAN Gallery.

Susie Matthews earned a MFA in ceramics from the Rhode Island School of Design. She received her master's degree in teching from RISD in 1998 and has taught ceramics to undergraduate RISD students, high school students, and children and adults with the AAN Arts Program and Nantucket Island School of Design and the Arts. She exhibits her work at the AAN Gallery on Nantucket.

Corey Moore holds a BFA in sculpture from Monserrat College of Art. He is an AAN artist member and also exhibits his work at the South Wharf Gallery and Brigham Galleries on Nantucket.

Whitney Roe earned a BA in studio art from Williams College, graduating with department honors. She joined the Association in 2003 as a printmaker and shows her work regularly at the AAN Gallery. She has also exhibited her work at the Berkshire Artists Association, the Williams College Museum of Art, and the NISDA Silo Gallery. She is a candidate for an MFA at Columbia University in New York.

Ed Rudd studied at the Ringling School of Art in Florida and NISDA on Nantucket where he developed a passion for watercolor and the architecture and landscape of New England. Since 1993, Ed has established himself as one of the foremost watercolor instructors in New Zealand. His work has been exhibited in galleries and exhibitions from Nantucket to Georgia to New Zealand.

Jane Leary Schnitzer is an AAN artist member who has studied extensively at the New York Botanical Garden, the Art Students League, the National Academy of Art, and the Lyme Academy of Art. Her work has been exhibited in many of these institutions. She shows her work at the AAN Gallery on Nantucket.

Dennis Sheehan grew up in Boston and studied art at the Vesper George School of Art. After graduation, he attended Monserrat School of Visual Art where he studied with George Gabin. His influences include George Innes, the 19th century landscape painter, and Bruce Crane. Travels throughout New England and Europ have informed and inspired his style. Sheehan is represented by Rosenbaum Fine Art in Boca Raton, Florida.

Anne Butler Sutherland, an experienced artist and art educator, founded the successful Sketching Tours of Nantucket, where she has taught hundreds of artists from all around the world. She is represented by the South Wharf Gallery on Nantucket and shows regularly in exhibitions at the AAN and other galleries across New England. After many years of dividing her time between Saratoga Springs and Nantucket, Sutherland recently moved permanently to the island.

Daniel Sutherland is an acclaimed island photographer. He has been a member of the Association for many years, and was instrumental in establishing the new computer lab at the AAN Workshop. He exhibits his work at the AAN Gallery on Nantucket and a variety of galleries from New England to New York.

George Thomas has been a member of the AAN since 1948. He has an MFA in painting and printmaking from the Boston Museum School. He has taught art at private schools, art schools, and at the university level. After thirty years of working in watercolor, he has focused on pastels for the last ten. Seorge has a studio and gallery on Candle Street in Nantucket. His pastels were recently featured in American Artist magazine.

Sherre Wilson Rae revived the AAN Arts Program in the early nineties and was the director from 1993-1995. She has had solo exhibitions on Nantucket at the Main Street Gallery and South Wharf Gallery. Sherre has a BFA in painting and printmaking from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and an MS in art education from Mass Art. She has taught at Mass Art and the Art Institute. Currently she is represented by the South Wharf Gallery on Nantucket and the David Findlay Gallery in New York City.

Stephanie Wuebbens has an undergraduate degree in art therapy with a concentration in studio art. She has been a member of AAN since 1994 and has been teaching watercolor classes for the association for many years.

Joe Zito has been a puppeteer for over twenty years and has been teaching on Nantucket Island for almost as long. Every summer he presents a series of puppet shows on Children's Beach.
In 2006, those shows were awarded the gold medal for Best Children's Activity on Nantucket by Cape Cod Life Magazine in its "Best Of" issue.
